Skimboarding is one of the fastest growing action-sports around the world. With viral videos stacking up online each day, more and more people find themselves wanting to learn how to glide across the water like the pros. But all great skimboarders know, learning to skim is a task riddled with bumps, bruises, and probably sand in your mouth. Luckily for you though, after tearing it up on his Youtube and Instagram over the years, World Champion skimboarder, Austin Keen is giving his fans the AK crash course to shredding the shorebreak. Let’s clear one thing up right away: This is NOT your average “one size fits all” tutorial video that you’re used to. Keen put together an entire 10-video playlist on his youtube channel, jam-packed with pro tips from one of the best in the industry. Whether you’ve never touched a board before, or you’re an experienced skimboarder, there’s something for everyone to learn.
AK provides tips for skimboarders of all levels, starting with the basics all the way up to more advanced skills like monkey crawl drops and shuv-its. He even went as far as to make a video helping beginners pick the right board (We all know Exile Skimboards are the way to go!). Here’s which videos you should watch according to your level of experience.
- Beginners: This section is for those of you that are brand new to skimboarding. These videos will have you spending less time falling on your butt, and more time getting out in the water.
- Intermediate: This is for those that have mastered the basics and are looking to push themselves and start reaching some waves!
- Experts: Now that you know how to get out to the waves, let’s add some style and learn how to ride the waves back into shore, and even add some tricks. This is where the real fun begins.
